Governs your use of HolosAccent — the mobile app, the Chrome extension, and the Telegram bot, all built on the same account and API. See the Privacy Policy for how we handle your data.
These Terms are between you and the team that runs HolosAccent (“we”) — the service at holosaccent.com and api.holosaccent.com — and cover its client apps: the Android app (this document), a Chrome extension, and a Telegram bot — all backed by the same account and API. Written notices reach us at support@holosaccent.com.
HolosAccent is a personal English pronunciation trainer. You pick an English phrase, read it into your microphone, and the service automatically scores the recording sound by sound, transcribes what it heard, and flags the words or phonemes that came out differently than expected.
Playback of a reference pronunciation (text-to-speech, American or British accent), spelling and punctuation checking of typed text, a history of your takes and per-sound statistics, phrase suggestions targeted at your weaker sounds, and a paid subscription that removes the daily limit.
Create an account with a username and password, or sign in with Google. Signing in with Google gives us your Google account identifier and email — never your Google password.
There is no anonymous, device-only mode: your daily limit, subscription, and history are all tied to your account, which is why your progress survives reinstalling the app.
Signing in issues an access token valid for about one month; after that you sign in again. You are responsible for everything done under your account — tell us immediately if you believe someone else has access.
You must be at least 16 to hold an account. Where your country sets a lower age for information-society services, that age applies instead, and below it a parent or guardian has to agree to these Terms on your behalf. We do not knowingly keep an account for anyone younger — write to support@holosaccent.com and we will remove it.
You submit an audio recording of your own voice reading a phrase we show you. Recordings are processed entirely by machine: converted to mono 16kHz audio, transcribed, and compared to the target phrase by a scoring model — no person listens to your recording.
The scoring model is probabilistic: even a native speaker’s clean recording gets roughly one sound in ten flagged incorrectly. Scores and flagged sounds are a training aid, not a certification of language proficiency and not speech-therapy or medical advice.
Text you type for spelling and punctuation checking is checked by our own self-hosted instance — it is not sent to any third-party spell-checking service.
Only submit recordings of your own voice. Do not upload someone else’s voice without their consent, or any unlawful or harmful content.
Do not attempt to bypass your daily limit or rate limits — through bulk requests, multiple accounts, or automation outside a published public API. You may see requests rejected (HTTP 429) or a “server busy” response when the service is under load; that is expected behaviour, not a bug.
Do not use the service, or recordings and text obtained through it, to build training datasets for other models.
Each scored take consumes real server time; we may throttle frequency or concurrency without notice to keep the service usable for everyone.
Every account gets 10 scored takes per day, resetting at UTC midnight.
A subscription removes the daily limit. Pricing: $6.99 per month, or $66.99 per year — two months free against the monthly rate. Billed through Google Play only (an iOS subscription, if offered, uses its own App Store pricing). Payment is processed by Google; we never see or store your card details.
Cancel any time in your Google Play subscription settings; access continues until the end of the period you already paid for. Refunds follow Google Play’s own refund policy and are requested from Google, not from us — we can only see that a purchase was voided, which we act on immediately. If Google turns a refund down and you believe it was our fault, write to support@holosaccent.com.
A purchase token is tied to the account that made it; we reject attempts to attach someone else’s purchase to your account. Your subscription status is confirmed by Google’s servers, not by anything the app itself claims.
HolosAccent is designed to degrade gracefully rather than fail outright. In practice that can mean: a take that never gets a scoring result is marked “timed out” after 180 seconds; history, statistics, and settings can become briefly unavailable while scoring keeps working; spelling checks can be skipped without blocking your typing; reference audio can fall back to your device’s built-in speech synthesis; and a completed take’s detailed result is only fetchable for 1 hour after scoring (the history entry itself persists longer).
We do not offer an uptime guarantee (SLA). The service may change, or be taken down for maintenance, at any time.
Our phrase library is drawn from open sources — Mozilla Common Voice (CC0), CMU ARCTIC (attribution required), and Harvard Sentences (public domain) — whose licences remain with those projects. Using HolosAccent gives you the right to practise with these phrases inside the app, not any broader rights to the underlying corpora. You can also type in your own phrases.
The HolosAccent code, models and their configuration, design, and brand belong to us. These Terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service — nothing more.
You keep ownership of your own recordings and any text you type. Submitting them to the service gives us only the licence needed to process them — scoring, storing them if you choose to save a take, and computing your statistics. We do not use your recordings or text to train our models.
The scoring results generated for your takes are yours.
You can clear your history or stop using the service at any time; see the Privacy Policy for account deletion.
We may suspend or restrict an account that violates the acceptable-use rules above (for example, bulk automated requests or evading the daily limit), with notice where practical.
Scores and flagged sounds are estimates, not certifications: expect roughly one sound in ten to be flagged incorrectly even in clean, native speech, and treat results as a training aid, not proof of a particular proficiency level or a substitute for a teacher or speech professional.
The service is provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
If we make material changes, we will announce them inside the app before they take effect. The “Last updated” date at the bottom of this page always reflects the current version.
Nothing in these Terms takes away the consumer protections of the country you live in: where its law gives you a right we cannot contract out of — including the right to bring a claim before your local courts — that law wins over anything written here. For everything else, and to the extent the law lets us choose, these Terms are read under the law of the place from which the service is operated.
